views to the bridges

Three days into Fulbright orientation - I've been to the Embassy once (security briefings and the like) and the Ambassador's residence twice (once for a reception for the 20 new Fulbright scholars and high school teachers and our hosts, and once to crash an awards event organized by Via Foundation, a Pittsburgh-connected group trying to jump start individual and corporate philanthropy in the Czech Republic).

Crisp weather, great colleagues and a promising first meeting with the Deputy Director at the Museum. Tomorrow night we go to the theatre and then Friday go on about our real lives in Prague.

The transportation here is just terrific - been all over on metros, trams, buses (and by foot, because I invariably get off on the wrong stop, get on going the wrong way, and turn right instead of left when consulting my map).

And the architecture, with the autumn light, takes your breath away.

Each Fulbright fellow has a different story - a philosophy prof with wife and 2 year old, an English lit prof with 8-months pregnant wife and 3 kids under age 6, two hard science guys with white beards and lively wives who are on assignments getting water samples, rock samples, and data crunching, and an economics/political science professor who has taught many of the current Czech leaders while going back and forth to Prague during the past few years. These folks are all veteran travelers..while me and the eight h.s. teachers are the rookies in the room.

Sending a shot of my room and two of my surroundings. Next post after I settle in to the Museum project (unless I get homesick or this jet lag sleep cycle stays nutty).Hope you all back near the Gulf Coast are managing hurricane part two and that families are well.
